BEAUTY

28.10.11

Exiled in my own country...

Effluvia Recordings

(ER019) Pollux & Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt – A Brief History Of The End

What else can I say but this? “A Brief History Of The End” is among the most immensely profound and emotionally convicting splits i’ve yet heard in the netlabel supernova. After walking my shoes worn around foreign environments, I chose to take a day to relax and enjoy the splendor of hiatus. Passive in mind, thinking petite little musings. Then, like a heavenly hand from the puffy clouds on high, Arnaud Barbe of “Pollux”, who you know and love, submits this demo. A split collaboration between his addictive self and one of the most challenging and abstract musicians residing in our flourishing archives, Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt. An architect of perilous textures that exuberate the organic compounds of our life and the world from which it erupts. A constructor of otherwordly molds that provide a metaphysical ass spanking followed by affirmation. In what? Difficult to say. Such a cacaphonous ephipheny, his soundscapes. Chaotic, yet masterfully realized and shrewdly executed, revealing in a particularly eerie track the absurd mildew emissions of modern humanity. This accompanied with the all pervading emotional dissectors of Arnaud Barbe’s intuitive genius makes for an epic listening conquest. Deeply hypnotizing and intoxicating, the ambiant outings of Pollux are lambent universes of their own, luminated by awe and emotional sensitivity that unconditionally welcomes you to surrender in cerebral ebbing. These two musicians have utilized their respective crafts to design the vibes of the apocalypse. Not the world exploding back into stardust, but rather an armageddon inside. The revelations of what the end is, and how we hover over it always. This album screams. My day is passive no longer.

Hi Berlin
I'm Jimmy Trash. And I got a story for you.

As I was maxin' and relaxin' around a "dampfbad" full of sweating beautiful teenagers and hanging out doing soggy cocaine from the top of double-headed albino cobras, one of my "famous" friends asked me the question:

"Jimmy, Jimmy Trash, how are you going to make 'TRASHFEST 4' even more trashy than last year? You had live fucking on stage, a freakshow, free tattoos, INCREDIBLE BANDS, you even had a fight with your own band onstage and kicked out a member in the middle of a song....
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TOP THAT SHIT???"

"Well", I told them, glancing glassily into the eye of the cobra as I took another line from its golden scales, "Apart from the MONOLITHIC lineup this year that will include":

More info
Experimental sound is a particular genre of music that is elusive to many; it is a genre where people explore sounds outside general rules of composition and assembly to create an unaccustomed type of music. This exhibition offers a discourse of experimental sounds via different forms of media incorporating sculpture, installation and film and is to challenge traditional sensibilities as to what quantifies as music.

OPENING NIGHT PERFOMANCES: Dale Chapman, Marco Cher-gibard, Rodney Cooper, Mark Groves & Sharryn Koppins (Dick Threats), Vijay Thillaimuthu.

ARTIST OVERVIEWS
Rod Cooper:
Sculptor, performer and sound artist - “The object becomes the composition”.
Rod Cooper became interested in instrument building while completing his fine art degree in 1988 at Victoria College, Prahran campus.
The noisy construction environment of the metal sculpture workshop increased his awareness for the potential of visual sculptures to become musical objects. As a result, over the last two decades Rod has developed a distinctive instrument building and performance practice which he adapts for various contexts such as music festivals, within gallery installations and touring. The ongoing development of the artist’s metal craft skills has facilitated the creation of complex musical instruments that expand the physical relationship between the body, form and space. The realization for sculpture to define space through sound is the driving force behind his creative practice. The exploration of sonic form and physical form is more than coincidence the two are inextricably linked. His sound compositions come from the objects he builds. The Object becomes its own composition. Rodney has exhibited, toured and played extensively nationally and internationally with highly acclaimed reviews and performances from places as the National Gallery of Victoria, to being filmed and aired by ABC Television. Rodney also has several audio releases.

John Waller
John Waller is an Australian artist working in new media installation and screen based culture. His current practice focuses on the production of computer animation, video and sound for projection and installation projects. By the early eighties his practice had moved to include other media and by the end of the eighties, his practice was primarily focussed on computer based multi-media works and installations. In 2008 he completed a PhD by project in the School of Art at RMIT, Melbourne, Over the last three decades John has exhibited in some seventy group and solo exhibitions, both in Australia and internationally. In support of his work he has received grants and funding from government agencies including the Digital Media Fund (Film Victoria), Arts Queensland, the Australian Film Commission and the Australia Council. OCCUPY MUSEUMS

Occupy Museums! Speaking out in front of the Cannons

The game is up: we see through the pyramid schemes of the temples of cultural elitism controlled by the 1%. No longer will we, the artists of the 99%, allow ourselves to be tricked into accepting a corrupt hierarchical system based on false scarcity and propaganda concerning absurd elevation of one individual genius over another human being for the monetary gain of the elitest of elite. For the past decade and more, artists and art lovers have been the victims of the intense commercialization and co-optation or art. We recognize that art is for everyone, across all classes and cultures and communities. We believe that the Occupy Wall Street Movement will awaken a consciousness that art can bring people together rather than divide them apart as the art world does in our current time…

Let’s be clear. Recently, we have witnessed the absolute equation of art with capital. The members of museum boards mount shows by living or dead artists whom they collect like bundles of packaged debt. Shows mounted by museums are meant to inflate these markets. They are playing with the fire of the art historical cannon while seeing only dancing dollar signs. The wide acceptance of cultural authority of leading museums have made these beloved institutions into corrupt ratings agencies or investment banking houses- stamping their authority and approval on flimsy corporate art and fraudulent deals.

For the last few decades, voices of dissent have been silenced by a fearful survivalist atmosphere and the hush hush of BIG money. To really critique institutions, to raise one’s voice about the disgusting excessive parties and spectacularly out of touch auctions of the art world while the rest of the country suffers and tightens its belt was widely considered to be bitter, angry, uncool. Such a critic was a sore loser.

It is time to end that silence not in bitterness, but in strength and love! Because the occupation has already begun and the creativity and power of the people has awoken! The Occupywallstreet Movement will bring forth an era of new art, true experimentation outside the narrow parameters set by the market. Museums, open your mind and your heart! Art is for everyone! The people are at your door!
